I am Dr. Rafi S. Bidros, a Board Certified Houston Plastic Surgeon. My practice is located at Town and Country Plastic Surgery near Memorial City and City Centre in Houston and I specialize in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Breast, Body and Face. The reason I'm starting this blog is to address common questions which I face on a daily basis in my practice. This may help people relate to a concern of their own, or bring to light an issue they’ve always wondered about. I will also try to share some interesting experiences that I've had during my typical day as a Plastic Surgeon.

How to choose breast implant size?

Short answer is that it's surgeon-dependent. Obviously, I think that my way is the best!

There are several ways to choose your breast implant size. Women want breast augmentation to improve how their clothes to fit, and how their breasts look. In my practice we address both issues.

During the consultation, you will spend time with one of our patient coordinators trying on different implants within your clothes. We provide different size bras to accommodate this new volume. We encourage you to do this on more than one occasion to be certain of what you want. Patients typically bring friends and family members to help them decide.

Unfortunately, using just this method of "trying on implants" doesn't allow you to see how your breast will look. We do have numerous before and after photographs to help you relate to other patients that have similarly shaped breasts.

At our practice, we also utilize state of the art 3-D imaging technology to allow you to see YOUR breasts augmented. You can actually dial up or dial down the volume and SEE how your breasts will likely look after surgery. Not many surgeons have this expensive technology available to their patients.

I also perform measurements and physical assesment to ensure that the size you've selected is appropriate and surgically feasible. I also discuss with you the profile of the implant according to those measurements. There are other factors including the shape, type and texture of the implant...I spend time educating you on your different choices.

Finally, during surgery, I place temporary sizers that are close to the volume selected before placing the final implant. This is to help achieve the best look. I find that these methods provide a high patient satisfaction when it comes to choosing the "right size".

Question: CAN I GET PREGNANT AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?

Yes, although not ideal...Most women elect to undergo a tummy tuck after they've finished having children...Life plans do change, however.

I have a patient who is currently pregnant after she had a tummy tuck 5 years prior. Her baby is healthy at 7 months...but she looks like she is about 4 months pregnant. That's one example!

Will she need another tummy tuck? Less likely.

So, how do you decide??? This is why it’s important to have a thorough discussion with your surgeon, who will help you come to a conclusion.

Welcome to my Blog...
I am Dr. Rafi S. Bidros, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. My practice is located at Town and Country Plastic Surgery near Memorial City and City Centre in Houston. The reason I'm starting this blog is to address common question which I face on a daily basis in my practice. This may help people relate to a concern of their own. I will also try to share some interesting experiences that I've had.

As my first blog, I want to tell you about myself and what it takes to become a plastic surgeon.

I grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana and attended school there. After obtaining High Honors at the University of Louisiana, I began my medical education at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. During those four years, I was drawn to the wonderful art of Surgery. I then completed five years of training in General Surgery at Charity Hospital and its affiliates throughout the state of Louisiana. Those years provided me with knowledge and skills to deal with very ill patients and highly acute emergencies. I am fully trained to deal with traumatic injuries, breast, skin and abdominal cancer, vascular and cardiac disorders, and intensive care. This is very important, as you want your surgeon to be competent to deal with most emergencies, in the rare event they may arise.
Subsequently, I received my Board Certification in Surgery, attaining the top 2% score among surgeons in the nation. I then completed my specialty training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Houston, Texas. There, I trained under the top professors in the field at St. Joseph, The Methodist, and Memorial Hermann hospitals. My training concentrated on Cosmetic Surgery, Breast Reconstruction, and Post Bariatric Body Contouring. I am well trained in the latest techniques as well as the time-tested ones. Subsequent to that, I took the written and oral examination to obtain my Board Certification in Plastic Surgery…Yes, it took 18 years of school and training after high school.
I have also conducted research and published several articles in the medical literature. I have presented to and educated fellow and peer surgeons around the country.
My practice philosophy is to help my patients achieve their goals. If I can’t do it, I will try to find someone who could. If a procedure is too risky, we will find an alternative. My patient coordinators and I will take the necessary time to educate you on the specific procedures, and inform you of your options. We want you to have a positive and a safe experience. We employ state of the art equipment, 3-D computer imaging to help patients get an idea of the possible result after surgery. Once you step into our office, you’ll quickly realize that we set a high standard for patient care in Plastic Surgery.
