Breast Implant Removal Houston
Breast implant removal happens for a number of reasons. The removal may be done due to the implant leaking or rupturing, capsular contracture or simply the patient’s desire to increase or decrease the size of the implant or adjust the shape. Breast implant removal may be necessary to correct other problems which can occur with implants such as the implants shifting, wrinkling, sagging or being asymmetrical. The body can also have an adverse reaction to the implants sometimes and this can causing infection, bleeding, necrosis or calcium deposits. Complications are rare, but as with any surgical procedure and any procedure that involves putting a foreign object in the body, there are risks.
In the event that a breast implant removal is necessary the procedure will be done under general or local anesthesia with IV sedation, just like the breast augmentation procedure. This procedure, however, generally take around half an hour to complete. The incision will be made under the breast or around the nipple usually and the implants will be carefully removed. Recovery is relatively quick, though you may experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising.
Women who are having very large breast implants removed may be left with a significant cosmetic deformity if they don’t decide to replace the breast implants with other implants. The breast tissue may atrophy and the chest wall become deformed. Psychological distress may also occur after just a significant body transformation and it may be necessary to seek treatment if the distress continues or worsens.
Breast implant removal surgery is necessary from time to time. Stay vigilant in your check-ups so that if a problem does occur, it can be resolved in a timely manner. It’s important to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in Breast Implants
